7 Guest Room Must Haves

My dad lives in California and when he comes to his hometown, Nashville, TN, he stays at my house with his wife. The tables turned in July and I stayed with my dad for 2 weeks and then we returned back to my house and he stayed with me for 2 weeks.

Now, I believe staying at his house and then having him stay at my house opened my eyes to the things that I did not have in my guest bedroom and guest bathroom. It made me realize that my guest room should have certain amenities to make my guest feel comfortable.

As a travel blogger, I want to share with you the mindset of how to incorporate what you see, learn, and perform while always traveling in your home life.

Here are seven things you should have in your guestroom

  1. Wi-Fi Information: Okay, let’s face it. No one can live without the internet these days. It doesn’t matter if you have to scroll your Instagram feed or send an important email; the internet is vital. You can write the Wi-Fi name and password on a sticky note and stick it to a wall or place it on a drawer. This way, your guests won’t have to ask for it and pass their time in a much preferable way.
  2. List of TV Channels: You must wonder why this is important. Everyone has different cable providers with different TV channels; all the channels are not the same. All you have to do is, make sure to provide a list of your cable TV channels. Put in some movie, cartoon, documentary channels suggestions so they can tune in according to their taste. Most cable providers have a downloadable version of their stations on the internet.
  3. Space in Drawer/Closet: The purpose of a guestroom is to provide free space. Make sure you leave some space in the drawers and closet too. Your guests could stay for a day or two. They would need space to place their accessories and clothes in someplace.
  4. Clean towels/washcloths: I never use my guest bathroom, so I didn’t realize that I didn’t have a place for guests to hang their towels. My towel rack doesn’t help either; it’s full of decorated towels that are not for regular use. Make sure to provide clean towels and washcloths and a place for towel hanging for your guests not to feel alienated in your house.
  5. Extra Toiletries: Yes, undecided stays are a regular occurrence. For that scenario, your bathroom should have a bag of extra toiletries. It should have all the basic necessities from a toothbrush, paste, soap, and shower gel to shampoo/conditioner. Showering and brushing your teeth every day is essential.
  6. Extra Blanket: If they stay over in winter season and it’s cold, imagine the horror of not having and providing an extra blanket. Imagine the shivers racking their bodies, at night, and not wanting to wake you up. You wouldn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable under your roof. Fill up the guest closet with some extra blankets to throw that scenario out of the window.
  7. Fan: For when it’s too hot, keep an extra fan. Some of you might have ACs in their guestrooms, but we have to make do with extras for people like us. I faced this issue last week when my stepmom felt too hot in her room, and I visited the garage to get a fan.

You can try sitting in your guest room, analyze it, and think about what you would want if you were to stay there. This would help you with more options to become the host of the year.
