Episode 77: Plan B Tips for Traveling During a Pandemic

It’s been two years since the Covid pandemic shut down the entire planet.

When you’re traveling, you need to have a Plan B. Especially during these times when everything could change in an instant and cause problems for your Plan A.

No one wants to have to think about bad stuff when traveling. We all just want to travel and have a good time and enjoy our vacations.

That’s great and all, but you also don’t want to be having a great vacation and be unprepared for that one time that something bad goes down.

This is what you need to know:

[05:22] Travel insurance.

Travel insurance is something I talk about often.

It’s one of those expenses that you just need to have.

It’s not just there if you need to cancel your trip. It’s also there for in case the entire planet shuts down during a global pandemic and you can’t go on your trip, and it also often covers your medical expenses if you fall ill and need medical assistance.

Your local medical insurance won’t cover your medical bills abroad. Travel insurance does.

This is especially important if you fall ill with Covid, because you most likely wont be allowed to travel back home to get treatment, so you will have extra expenses for accommodation and changing your flights, and travel insurance will cover those expenses.

If you get nothing else, get travel insurance.

[09:21] Know your resort/hotel’s Covid policy.

Most hotels will probably have a dedicated space and discounted rates for those who test positive with Covid while on the property.

If you know this policy up ahead, you can budget accordingly in case you test positive.

[11:49] Prepare for an emergency stash.

This applies to your daily life as well.

While you’re traveling, make sure you have some savings somewhere that you can use in case you need to spend money on an emergency stay at a hotel. Even if you have travel insurance, they will often require you to make these payments first and they’ll reimburse you afterwards.

[13:17] Never travel without your work laptop.

If you can work from anywhere in the world, make sure you take your work laptop with you.

If you need to quarantine in another country, you want to be able to still do your job from that facility if you can’t make it home for an additional 2 weeks.

[15:03] If you have children.

If you have children and you’re traveling abroad without them, you need to make the appropriate arrangements with whoever is caring for them while you’re abroad in the event that you need to extend your stay.

Should the person caring for them not be able to extend beyond the original travel dates, you need to have a Plan C.

[17:10] Recap.

You need to purchase travel insurance so that your emergency expenses are covered abroad.

It will be good to know your accommodation’s Covid policy.

You need to have an emergency stash that will be able to cover the expenses for up to 10 days of quarantine.

If you have kids, you need to make the necessary arrangements with their carer in case you test positive with Covid and need to stay abroad for extra time.

If you’re planning on traveling, you need to be prepared.

The pandemic is still going, and everything is still unpredictable, so you want to have a backup plan just in case.

It’s just a precaution. You would rather have the Plan B and not need it than be stranded somewhere and not have a Plan B.
