In February of 2021, I went to Planet Hollywood in Cancun.

I was supposed to go in May 2020, but Covid-19 put that plan on hold until finally giving me a chance to go in February 2021 for some Valentine’s self-love.

Even after such a long delay, my stay there was absolutely worth the wait, and I will suggest it to anyone looking for an incredible experience in Cancun.

Highlights from this episode:

[02:16] Two sides of the resort.

There’s a family side with 566 suites, and an adult-only side with 332 suites.

I usually stay on the adult-only side of resorts if they have one – I don’t have kids, and I’m not about to go to a party and turn up around kids all the time. The family side is open to anyone, whether you have kids or not.

The resort was still under construction, so it’s not quite as large as I thought it would be.

[03:47] Attention to detail.

The attention to detail was on point, starting the moment you step through the door.

When you enter family-side the lobby to check in, there’s music playing, and you’re getting cheers and greetings like a superstar as you make your way to the check-in counter. At the adult-only side, it’s not quite such a spectacular greeting, but it’s all good.

When I got to my room, there was an LED Planet Hollywood logo lit up on the floor to welcome me to my huge room. There was a large seating area, a fully stocked mini bar, a flat screen TV with your name on it, a spectacular bathroom, and a swim-up pool (I booked a Junior Suite Swim-up Room in Star Class).

[07:57] Restaurants.

I only stayed for a few days, so I didn’t get to experience every restaurant, but I did manage to get to quite a few of them.

There’s a large buffet with plenty of great options, but I mainly went there for breakfast.

Now, my favourite restaurant on the whole resort was Guy’s Burger Joint. I only knew of Carnival Cruise Line having a Guy’s Burger Joint on their cruises, so when I heard that there was one at Planet Hollywood, you know I wasn’t leaving without having one of those incredible burgers and french fries.

There was Gusto, an Italian restaurant where I usually had lunch and dinner. You can get wood-fired pizza to-go, and you can join the sit-down restaurant at night. After my visit to CHIC Punta Cana Resort, where I had the best risotto of my life, I had to try it here – CHIC and Planet Hollywood are both Blue Diamond Resorts, so I knew I wasn’t about to leave without trying out Planet Hollywood’s risotto.

I was not disappointed. The risotto was so good and buttery – everything else was great as well, but that’s risotto was especially good.

There’s a sports bar, Overtime Bar and Grill. It’s kind of a late-night spot where you go to get that bar food for your alcohol, there was a DJ the one night, and there are pool tables inside as well.

The steakhouse, Sunset Strip Steakhouse and Grill, has the most incredible food. Everything from the appetisers to the steaks, and even the seasoning was perfect.

The Mexican restaurant, La Cosina Mexican Cuisine, had the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in Cancun. I ate so much Mexican food, I almost needed a wheelchair to get back to my room.

The room service food was good, the pool bar food was good – there wasn’t any bad food on the resort.

[13:27] 11 bars.

The resort boasts 11 bars, but there were 2 spots that were just my favourites.

The Lobby Bar – this one is on the family side, and it’s got a great vibe in the evenings when I went there for drinks.

The beach bar – this one is on the adult-only side. This is a bar with a view and a good vibe, and they had Jack Daniels – you know when there’s Jack Daniels, I’m about to live my best life.

[15:02] Activities and Entertainment.

There are just endless activities and entertainment options.

There’s mini golf, a lazy river, indoor trampoline park, a cave bar in the pool, water slides, a Jurassic-themed splash park, a Flow Rider (there’s a video of me on the flow rider at ericajamestravel.com), and a movie theatre.

There are even gyms, spas, and nighttime entertainment.

As part of their nighttime entertainment, there are Theme Nights. These happen every night, and they’re always a different theme for each night – check their website ahead of your stay so you know what to pack if you’re going to be joining these.

When I was there, they had a neon silent disco – that’s where you get a pair of headphones with a few channels and you get to party listening to the music you want to listen to.

There’s something for everyone, no matter what your age or entertainment preferences.

[19:49] Amazing service.

Shout out to Liliana – she was working the pool bar, and she took great care of me, remembered my name and my drink.

Make sure you tip people who take care of you!

[20:45] The wait was worth it.

Even though I originally planned to go in May 2020, Covid interrupted that plan, so I rescheduled it for February 2021. I can tell you, the wait was so worth it.

The resort offers so much for every type of traveler, whether you want to turn up or just relax.

I just loved it so much, so I decided I’ll be going back again in a few months.

Planet Hollywood has the EJTravelDiva Stamp of Approval.
