Episode 44: Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas

Today, I’m going to tell you a bit about my three week vacation at Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas.

That’s right. I spent three weeks working remotely from an all-inclusive resort in Mexico.

You can find it in Los Cabos, Mexico. There, you have a great chance of bumping into a few celebrities, because everyone owns a place there. Cabo is also where you can see the famous “El Arco”.

Let’s get into it:

[02:18] Riu resorts.

The Riu brand is family-owned, and specialises in vacation resorts. They’re based in Mexico, but they’ve made their way to 20 countries around the world.

I learned this fact at trivia night during my stay. You’re welcome.

[03:07] The Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas Resort.

From the airport, you can get there within 30 minutes.

The resort is located on a beautiful white sand beach. Just a fair warning – this beach sand was the thickest beach sand I’ve ever experienced in my life. Every day on the beach is leg day.

It is an all-inclusive beachfront resort, with 600 rooms across 4 floors. If you get the right room, you can score a view of the famous El Arco.

[04:02] Stay at one, play at three.

The Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas is not an adult-only resort.

However, if you’re staying the Riu Palace San Lucas, you have access to the Riu Palace Baja California and the Riu Santa Fe.

Remember, if you’re staying at Riu Santa Fe, you don’t have the same access to the other two.

[05:27] Room service.

During the pandemic, the resort was not offering room service – although, they would have offered 24/7 room service under normal circumstances.

I am particular about the 24/7 room service because limited room service doesn’t give me my fix of french fries when I need them in the middle of the night.

[06:06] Food and drinks.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas has 6 restaurants: buffet, Japanese, Italian, Fusion, Indian, and a Steakhouse. During the day they also have an outdoor grill where they make snacks that just smell irresistible.

I spent a lot of time working at the lobby bar, taking in the incredible view. You could also choose from two swim-up bars and a beach bar. The important part is that they had Jack Daniels, which you will not find at the Riu Santa Fe.

[08:14] Huge rooms.

I stayed in an oceanfront junior suite. This room was huge.

There was a King-size bed, a living room area, a flatscreen TV, a refrigerator, a drink dispenser, a coffee maker, a big bathroom with a double sink and a shower, and a balcony with a view.

Don’t even tell me you don’t care about the room, because it all matters.

They also offer swim-up rooms, but it was in freezing January, and if you decide to go to Mexico in January, you probably do not need a swim-up room. I was not ready for how cold Mexico is in January.

[10:44] Kids’ Club.

If you are travelling with your kids and you want some alone time, the resort does offer a Kids’ Club, called Riu Land. Be aware that they are closed due to Covid-19.

[11:06] Entertainment.

During the day, there wasn’t too much entertainment excitement. This wasn’t really a problem for me because I was working during the day anyway.

When I wasn’t busy working, I was at the pool at Riu Baja California, where the hip crowd was living it up at all times.

The sports bar is at Riu Santa Fe. I went over there on Sundays to catch up on football games. They also have a water park, and they would’ve had daily pool parties if it wasn’t for the pandemic.

It might have been due to the pandemic, but the nighttime entertainment seemed to be lacking a bit.

[12:31] Conclusions.

I definitely recommend Riu Cabo San Lucas.

It’s close to the airport, the marina, the clubs, and in a good location.

If you’re younger and you’re looking for more fun, the Riu Baja California is probably your best bet because it’s adult-only.

Riu Santa Fe won’t be suggested to my clients. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive resort starter experience on a tight budget, Riu Santa Fe might be a good fit for you.

If you’re looking for resorts in Cabo, there are so many. Hopefully this episode has helped you make a good decision so that you can have the vacation experience that you want.
