Episode 80: Marijuana Tourism

It’s episode 80, y’all!

I feel like we know each other well enough now, right?

Today’s episode is going to be all about cannabis tourism, and because we know each other so well, I’m going to be calling it weed as well.

It is March 28th, which is National Weed Appreciation Day (not the kind of weed we’re talking about today), and that gave me the idea to find out everything I could about cannabis and tourism, and let me tell you – it’s been enlightening!

This is what you need to know:

[02:18] Cannabis Tourism.

Cannabis Tourism is defined as “leisure travel done for the purpose of indulging in marijuana use in areas where it is legal.”

If you want to avoid trouble on your vacation in a foreign place, make sure it’s done legally! The last thing you want is to get busted, especially in a foreign country.

[03:47] Did you know?

29% of leisure travellers are interested in weed-related activities while on vacation, and 18% of those are Americans.

So, I know some of you are listening to this and have some interest in this topic today.

[04:27] Weed-related activities.

Whether you’re a weed veteran or you just want to experiment with weed and CBD products, there’s something for everyone, and you can be rest assured that it’s in a safe environment, for those who are a bit hesitant.

You could visit a dispensary, experiment with edibles, have food and drinks that are infused with weed, have a CBD spa treatment for your joints (see what I did there?), attend cooking classes, or festivals.

[07:28] It’s about what you want to experience.

You probably wont find much in the way of advertising when it comes to weed-related activities, because there is still a stigma attached to it, and that means that people who find out about it are generally already interested in it enough to look for these options.

The information is out there, so you could research all of it if you want to, or you could speak to a travel agent (hint hint) and let them plan a vacation around your level of comfort around weed.

[09:18] Jamaican weed.

When I went to Jamaica in 2021, I got to see more weed than I ever thought possible at a weed farm.

I got to take a tour to see the entire process from the planting of the seed right through to the picking of the leaves, hanging them up to dry out, and packaging the final product, and smelling the many different smells that different weed plants have.

Imagine going to a vineyard and watching the whole winemaking process, and now replace the wine with weed, and that’s exactly the kind of experience it was.

[11:35] Incorporate it into your vacation.

We’ve spoken about the activities that you could do to experiment with weed-related products, but there are still so many other ways to make your vacation 420-friendly.

You could stay at the Bud & Breakfast in Denver, a 122-year old Victorian house that has become well-known as a 420-friendly vacation spot.

There’s Puff Pass & Paint, a cannabis-friendly all-inclusive art class.

Wherever you go, you find cooking classes, so why not find weed-related cooking classes?

You don’t even need to go to Amsterdam to find weed tours anymore, so go to a nearby state in the US and find out about this amazing experience right here!

[13:39] 420-friendly accommodation.

If you go on to Airbnb or HomeAway, you can actually search for places that allow you to smoke your weed in the room without charging you a $250 fine.

[14:14] Let the stigma go.

We have arrived in the 21st Century. You don’t have to worry about your weed needs in this day and age, because you can absolutely plan your vacation around weed in more and more places as they start legalizing it.

Gone are the days when you needed to text your dealer to get your fix. Now, you can pick up the phone and speak to an open-minded travel agent (hint hint), and organise a vacation where you can have the kinds of weed experiences that you can’t get from your dealer.

[15:59] Where can you have your weed?

The US States where recreational marijuana is legal: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Guam, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Washington DC.

Countries/territories with legalised recreational use: The Australian Capital Territory, Canada, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Malta, Mexico, South Africa, and Uruguay.

Weed is technically illegal in Jamaica, but it seems to be readily available, and people often smoke it out in public, from what I saw while I was there.

[18:41] Cannabis tourism is real.

The cannabis tourism industry is not widely spoken about, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

In today’s world, if you want to have a weed vacation, then go out there and have a weed vacation. Fulfill those weed needs and live your best life on vacation.

It’s always about what you want to experience, and if it’s weed you want to experience, then you go and you experience all the weed you want, and don’t let anybody bring you down from your high.
