Episode 50: About the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp

Nashville Convention

Today, I’m going to be talking about my hometown, Nashville, Tennessee. Joining me is Staci Flores, Tourism Sales Manager from the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, and we’re going to get into vacationing in Nashville, what to do, where to go, and how to make the most of what Nashville has to offer.

Let’s get into it:

[02:54] What is the Nashville CVC?

The CVC is the marketing organisation for the City of Nashville.

Their job is to market the city for visitors, whether they’re there for conventions and meetings or for vacationing.

If you’re looking for the best restaurants, tourist spots, or hotels, the Nashville CVC is the place to get that information.

The best place to start is to visit their website (linked below), check out their Visitor’s section, and find what you’re looking for before you visit, and then contact the CVC team so that they can help you plan your itinerary in the best way possible.

[07:02] Why you should vacation in Nashville.

Nashville has the Three A’s – Accessible, Accommodating, and Authentic.

So many major airlines fly into Nashville, and they’re in the perfect spot for those that want to take a road trip to or through Nashville.

Nashville prides itself on its hospitality – they’ve been named the one of the friendliest cities by Travel & Leisure for several years in a row.

Nashville’s brand is Music – you’ll hear it wherever you go.

[09:19] Nashville’s music variety.

Most people associate Nashville with Country Music.

In fact, what most people don’t know is that Nashville is a sought-after city for recording artists from all genres.

Nashville has the largest songwriter community in the world, so there are many opportunities to experience local songwriters performing their own songs.

Most of the venues along Lower Broadway will have live music that is crowd driven – whatever the crowd’s into at the moment, you’ll hear performed live.

[12:15] Nashville’s food.

Nashville is known for its good food as well.

There are options for any taste, from traditional southern cuisine to chef-driven venues, and of course their BBQ and hot chicken.

[13:35] Tours and Activities.

If you’re not feeling the music scene, there are many activities and tours.

You can start with a city tour. There are 2 hop-on-hop-off tours: The Music City Tour, and Old Town Trolley Tours. Each tour has around 15 stops, and totals around 1.5 hours if you never get off at the stops.

There are also countless historical landmarks and arts and culture options.

[17:39] Fun places to stay.

There are several great places to stay in Nashville.

The Virgin Hotel in midtown Nashville has a great rooftop bar, with amazing views of the area.

Printer’s Alley has several boutique hotel, including the Bobby Hotel, the Dream Hotel, and the Noelle, to name a few.

Recently, several familiar hotel names have popped up in Nashville, including the Grand Hyatt, the Marriott, Omni, Four Seasons, and others.

[20:22] Rooftops.

There are some amazing rooftops in Nashville.

The Grand Hyatt, the Thompson Hotel, and the Virgin Atlantic rooftops are great options that I know of.

Staci recommends checking out the Noelle’s laidback rooftop, the Booby Hotel’s trendy rooftop, and the music rooftops all along Lower Broadway – especially 5th and Broadway (it’s the highest in Nashville).

[22:25] The Music Museums.

There are several museums to check out in Nashville.

The Musician’s Hall Of Fame & Museum – this focuses on session artists across all the genres. You’ll find the stories of great musicians, their band members, and artifacts, and quite a bit of what you’ll find there is interactive as well. Expect to spend several hours there.

The Country Music Hall Of Fame – This is fairly self-explanatory, but what’s interesting is that it focuses on Country Music as it developed through its various styles over time. There are over 2Million artifacts in its storage.

The African American Museum – This recently opened up in Nashville. You can find so much in this museum, from gospel to classical, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary music, and focuses especially on how African Americans have been instrumental in shaping each of those musical genres.

[28:04] Nashville’s African American History.

Currently, the Nashville CVC is creating an itinerary that focuses on African American History, linking it with the music and the Civil Rights Movements.

There’s the Jefferson Street Sound Museum, the historically black College Universities, the African American Museum, the Witness Walls, Woolworth on 5th, and the Tennessee State Museum.

[31:35] Going to other areas.

If you want to go elsewhere, the Nashville CVC has connections with other state CVCs, so get in contact with them and they’ll put you in touch with the relevant organisations.

I hope this episode has you keen to visit Nashville and soak up all the history, culture, food, and award-winning hospitality that it has to offer.

I’m definitely going to be taking yet another staycation in Nashville, and if you ever need to know anything about my hometown, let me know and I’ll help you live your best life vacationing in Nashville.
