Chicken and Waffles in Nashville, TN

What is so great about chicken and waffles?

If you think about it, it’s like having a great fried chicken sandwich on some sweet bread.  Chicken and waffles are a great combination of crispy fried chicken, a fluffy sweet waffle with an even sweeter drizzle of syrup and butter to top everything off, and pull all the flavors together for a morning brunch party in your mouth.

Who came up with Chicken and Waffles?

Rumor has it that the famous dish, Chicken and Waffles, started in Harlem in the 1930s. However, I am sure that Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles restaurant made it famous.  I am sure it is not a coincidence that the creator of Roscoe’s, Herb Hudson, is also from Harlem. Go figure!

The truth about how and where Chicken and Waffles was first created, but one thing is for sure, here in Nashville, you are sure to find tons of restaurants that offer chicken and waffles and many of those restaurants also offer Nashville Hot Chicken on top of waffles too.

Chicken and Waffles in Nashville, TN

Another Broken Egg

Another Broken Egg is a cute, modern-day diner feel that is known for having good southern-style breakfast, brunch and lunch.  It offers a full bar that includes spiked coffee, hand-crafted cocktails, as well as, your standard breakfast drink, the Mimosa.

I have eaten at Another Broken Egg several times and the food are good however, the Chicken and Waffles was not my favorite.

The waffles were delicious. I could not say the same for the unseasoned chicken tenders with no taste that sat on top of the waffle.

Very disappointing because Another Broken Egg has excellent breakfast otherwise.

Big Bad Breakfast Nashville

Big Bad Breakfast (BBB)is new to Nashville. It opened in 2019 and was created by the James Beard Award-winning chef, John Currence. In Nashville, Big Bad Breakfast is located on Charlotte Avenue across the street from Hattie B’s.

The chicken and waffles at BBB are simply delicious. The chicken was perfectly seasoned with a hint of spice and the perfectly cooked, soft but a little crisply waffle was divine. To top off the great tasting chicken and waffles was an amazing honey flavored BBB syrup that was simply perfection. The combination of the three put together has me wobbling out of the restaurant from being stuffed because I couldn’t and didn’t want to put my fork down.

Open daily from 7am – 2:30pm, BBB serves breakfast all day. You can enjoy a seat on the patio, inside the dining area or at the cute little breakfast counter and bar.

Big Bad Breakfast serves breakfast cocktails, specialty coffees and breakfast of all kinds like breakfast skillets, lean bites like Avocado Toast and fresh biscuits.

The food was good, the atmosphere was good, and I would recommend it for breakfast of any kind. Not only the chicken and waffles.

The Ainsworth Nashville

Whatever the occasion, Ainsworth is the spot to be! Located across from Vanderbilt University and Hospital on 21st Avenue, this cute hip joint is perfect for brunch, lunch, dinner and the late-night spot.

The decor is nothing short of chic and fabulous, the DJ is always on point playing the hottest jams and there is several instagrammable spots to capture pictures.

When I ordered the chicken and waffles, I was incredibly surprised when they came out on how cute they looked and how big they were.

Ainsworth has incorporated the theme of “Nashville Hot” chicken with their waffles and when I tell the chicken is hot, the chicken is hot! Hot and good. This restaurants combination of hot chicken and waffles is sure to please the ultimate foodie, not only with its food but the chic atmosphere and the hip vibes sets the stage for a sexy-brunch vibe.

Tip:  I would definitely make a reservation to ensure there is a seat for yourself.

Milk & Honey Nashville

Located in a walking neighborhood that Nashville calls the Gulch is a restaurant called Milk & Honey that gives you an upscale modern diner type-of-vibe. This restaurant is a southern sophisticated diner that offers a dining experience, bakery and coffee shop—all in one.  It has both indoor and outdoor seating. Which is always a plus for me. I love a good patio where I can enjoy a drink and a meal.

Offering two types of chicken and waffles on the menu—-Regular and “Nashville Hot” Chicken and Waffles. For my visit, I am going with the Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles.

First impressions when it was brought out was ‘Wow, this is huge”.  As I watched several plates being brought out, Milk & Honey offers big portions. You could share meals with others.

The chicken and waffles were paired with home fried potatoes. The Nashville Hot Chicken came with the fire! The hot chicken and waffle combination is sure to wake you up and get your day started. The waffle was huge, golden and cooked to perfection while the home fries was nothing short of fabulous.

Tip: The line to get into Milk & Honey is long as well as the wait. Get there as soon as the doors open, or you will sure stand in line.

There are numerous places to get Chicken and Waffles or Hot Chicken and Waffles in Nashville. I only provided you with a few. I will continue to update as I make my way though my hometown of Nashville and letting your know who has good (and who does not) Chicken and Waffles and where you can find this delicious combination.
