Things You Should Not Do on A Plane

Things You Should Not Do on A Plane

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Travel Tips
As we are living in a civilized world, there is proper etiquette that should be maintained to be a part of society. Don’t you think? What are your thoughts on airplane etiquette? I know most people are traveling for vacation, and everyone is excited, letting loose, having a good time without a care in the world. I get it. I feel the same way when I travel. However, we can’t let everything go out of the airplane window because, after all, we are still among many other people. Here are six behaviors I believe no one should do on a plane, ever. Using the speaker on your phone is not okay! If you forgot your headphones and the airline could not provide you with any, then you are out of…

How to survive long-haul flights

How to survive long-haul flights

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Travel Tips
My very first long-haul flight was to Germany, and I was completely unprepared.  I looked at this flight as being no different from a domestic flight from Nashville to California--of which I have done so many times.  However this time, I didn't sleep well, watched everything on the provided entertainment more than once, and was completely uncomfortable.  I couldn't wait to get off that plane! After my flight to Germany, I vowed that I would never make the same mistakes again.  After all, I am a Virgo, and we are usually prepared--if not, we will at least never make the same mistake twice.  So, on my next long-haul flight to Paris, I was more than prepared and felt that I hit preparation meter out of the park. Even more recently,…

5 Things You Should Never Put in Your Checked Bag

5 Things You Should Never Put in Your Checked Bag

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Travel Tips
Being a travel agent, I have learned, through speaking with numerous clients, about their travels, that I take for granted that many people know.  For examples travel terms and rules.  I thought everyone knew the difference between carry-on and checked luggage.  However, I have come to realize that there are people, that don't travel often and are not familiar with those terms---knowledge some of us take for granted. Now there are rules to what you can put in your carry-on bag versus your checked bag.  The most common rule is the rule of 3, when it comes to liquids.  If you have 3 oz or less, it can go in your carry-on bag but if it is over 3 oz, it needs to go in your checked bag.  However, there…

Solo Cruising Day 4: Thrills and Chills

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Solo Travel
My morning started at around 1:30 a.m. when I awakened realizing that I had dozed off last night with the TV on.  Yes, I went to bed early, I had eaten too much the night before, remember? Anyway, I ended up watching two good movies that I would have normally avoided because I am not a fan of Nicole Kidman.  I find her to be boring and she seems to select the worse movies.  But I am getting away from the point.  So....I watch M. Night Shyamalan called "Split" and another movie called "Lion".  By this time, it was 5 a.m.  I turned the TV off so there would be no change of getting caught up in another movie. Then I found myself waking up again to the sounds of…

Solo Cruising Day 2: Be In The Moment

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Solo Travel
On this day, I slept in until my body naturally woke itself.  What a great feeling to naturally wake on your own with no agenda insight to control your day.  I turned on the T.V. and watched the last half of an animated movie before I finally rolled out of bed, pulled back my curtains to a beautiful view of the ocean--stunning!  The day was beautiful.  Perfect weather.  "This is vacation" I thought to myself.  I opened the balcony door and allowed the sounds of the ocean to fill my room with peaceful bliss.  After showering, instead of drying off with a towel, I sat on my balcony and allowed the natural wind to do it for me.  "It's amazing..." as I think to myself, looking out into the blue…

Having Access to a Travel Agent is a Good Thing

Having Access to a Travel Agent is a Good Thing

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Travel Tips
Twice, in one week, I received a call, from a client, in a panic because "someone told them" that they could not cruise, with their passport because it did not have at least six months validity on it.  One client stated that she could not get off the cruise ship and see the ports of calls because her passport needed to be renewed. These are the calls that I receive when my clients listen to other travelers.  Thankfully, my clients picked up the phone to verify the information they received with their travel agent - me. I explained to both clients that, they actually did not need a passport to cruise on closed-loop cruises that start and end in the United States.  U.S. citizens embarking on a cruise that both begins and…

My AHA Moment with Shared Transportation

My AHA Moment with Shared Transportation

Blog, EJtheTravelDiva Blog, Travel Learning Lessons
I went to a Travel conference in November that was held in Orlando, FL. I went with the intentions of gathering new ideas and learning ways to better Erica James Travel in 2013. Although, I was inspired by all the information that I received, I also realized a few important things about traveling and being on vacation. I was attending a conference, however it was still vacation to me and I wanted to be treated as such. It is my perspective that I am on vacation every time I travel, and I do not want to compromise on things that are going to enhance my travel experiences. There are some things I simply have learned by experience that I will not compromise. I do not want to compromise on transportation.…

People who know me, know that I am a very adventurous person. When I vacation, I like to do things outside of the box, things I've never done before, and things that make me say, "Wow!" I cruised with Royal Caribbean in November 2010 and one of the ports was Cozumel, Mexico. Although I have visited Cozumel before, I decided to try a different experience.....and I left saying, "Wow!" Before leaving for my cruise, I booked my shore excursion call Swim with Dolphins Experience. This was something that I always wanted to do, I had the opportunity and I was not going to miss it. Once the cruise ship docked, I hoped in a cab and went to my WOW experience. Before getting in the water, I met with an…
